Terms of use

Easel is made and run by Nutmeg Studios LLC. Using the app or this site means you accept what is on this page. It is written to be read.

What Easel does

You choose a photograph, you choose a look, and Easel makes a picture from them. The picture is made by an AI image model run by our partners; what that involves, and what is stored, is set out in the privacy policy. There is no account and no subscription.

Credits

• One credit makes one picture, whichever look you choose.
• Easel starts you with three credits. After that, credits are bought inside the app in packs of 15, 30 or 70, as consumable in-app purchases.
• Credits never expire. There is no clock on them and no inactivity forfeit.
• Credits are held against the anonymous session on the iPhone you bought them on. They are not an account, so they do not follow you to another device, and if that stored session is lost the balance goes with it. Restore purchases in Settings redeems a purchase Apple recorded but Easel never received; it cannot move a spent or unspent balance between devices.
• Credits have no cash value, cannot be sold or transferred, and cannot be exchanged by us for money.

Paying, and refunds of money

Every purchase is made through Apple, under Apple's terms, and charged to your Apple Account. We never see your payment details.

Refunds of money are Apple's to give, not ours. If you want a purchase refunded, use Apple's Report a Problem page. Nutmeg Studios LLC cannot reverse an Apple charge. Where consumer law in your country gives you a right to a refund, that right stands whatever this page says.

When a credit comes back

Exactly two cases, and this is what the software actually does:

• A render that fails is always refunded, automatically. If the picture never arrives — the model errored, the request timed out, something on our side broke — the credit is returned without your asking and without limit. There is no cap on this.
• A render that arrives but isn't right: the first five are on us. Tell us with Not quite right on the result and say what was wrong, and Easel offers the credit back; if you decline it, it stays spent. That goodwill allowance is five per device, counted for the lifetime of the device, across all looks. After the fifth, a result you turn down is still recorded — we want to know — but no further credit is returned.

We publish the number because an unlimited version of that promise is simply a free app. If five was not enough for an honest run of bad results, write to support@easel.art and tell us what happened.

What you may upload

You are responsible for every photograph and every word you send. By sending one you confirm:

• You have the right to use that photograph.
• Everyone recognisable in it is happy to be pictured this way. Do not upload a photograph of another person without their permission.
• It is not a photograph of a child that you are turning into anything sexual, suggestive or degrading. There is no allowance here of any kind: content that sexualises a minor is reported and the device is blocked.
• You are not asking for content that is illegal, that infringes someone's copyright or trade mark, that is sexual content of an identifiable person without their consent, that is hateful, harassing, threatening or defamatory, or that is built to deceive people about a real person, organisation or event.
• You are not using the app to impersonate someone, to make a document or likeness intended to pass as genuine, or to reproduce currency or official documents for use.
• You are not trying to break, overload, scrape or reverse the service, or to get around credits, rate limits or the content checks.

Our AI partner applies its own content policy and may refuse a request on its own account. We may refuse or stop any render, remove content, and stop serving a device that breaks these rules. If you see a picture or a use of Easel that breaks them, tell us at support@easel.art and we will act on it.

What comes out of it

Every picture Easel returns is generated by an AI model. It is an interpretation, not a record. It can be wrong, unflattering, anatomically odd, or nothing like what you asked for, and two identical requests will not produce identical pictures. Do not treat a result as a true depiction of any person, place, object or event, and do not present one as a photograph where that matters — in news, evidence, identification or advertising. Results may carry provenance metadata from the model that made them.

Easel is not a professional service of any kind. Nothing it produces is advice.

Who owns what

Your photograph stays yours. You give Nutmeg Studios LLC permission to store it, process it and send it to the providers named in the privacy policy for one purpose only: making the pictures you ask for and showing them back to you. That permission covers nothing else. We do not sell your photographs, we do not use them to advertise to you, and we do not use them to train any model.

As between you and us, the pictures Easel makes for you are yours, to the extent they can be owned by anyone — in several countries purely AI-generated images may attract no copyright at all, which is a fact about the law rather than a limit we are imposing. Easel, its name, its catalogue, its prompts and this site remain ours.

Stopping

You can stop using Easel whenever you like: delete your pictures from the Gallery, then delete the app. Unused credits are not refunded when you do, because they were never money in our hands. We may suspend or stop serving a device that breaks these terms, and we may change, add or retire looks at any time. If we ever shut the service down we will say so on this site before the pictures go.

The legal part

Easel is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows: we do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular picture will please you. To the fullest extent the law allows, Nutmeg Studios LLC's total liability to you for anything connected with Easel is limited to what you paid us through Apple for credits in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing here takes away consumer rights you have where you live.

Apple

Your licence to use the app is Apple's standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement; these terms sit alongside it, and where the two conflict on the licence itself, Apple's wins. Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for Easel or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide support for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Changes

If these terms change, the new version appears here with a new date at the top. Carrying on using Easel after that means accepting them.
